Halitosis is often caused due to simple lack of oral hygiene. A large amount of individuals suffering from bad breath lack the proper level of oral hygiene and mouth care. They have bad breath due to decaying teeth or gum disease due to not brushing of the teeth and tongue. It is very important to brush the teeth and gums twice a day to remove the buildup of plague and food particles.
Flossing the teeth daily helps to remove the food particles stuck in between the teeth that form bacteria leading to the bad breath. Brushing and flossing after every meal removes the potential bad breath contributions of the food and beverages. There are times when it is not easy to brush the teeth after a meal. Chewing sugarless gum will help remove any lodged food as well as activating the saliva that will naturally cleanse the mouth.
Many people fail to brush and floss daily. They do not realize the importance of proper oral hygiene. Lack of oral hygiene leads to tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath. The mouth is naturally a bacteria infested location that when not treated correctly will produce the foul smelling breath as well as possible tooth decay and gum diseases.
The tongue is one of the major locations for the harboring of the bacteria. The tongue has a porous surface the bacteria clings to and multiples. It is important to fight bad breath by removing the anaerobic bacteria by brushing or scraping the tongue daily.
One method of removing the bacteria is to use a spoon to scrape the bacteria from the surface of the tongue. Run the spoon from the back to the front of the tongue then rinse with mouthwash. Avoid placing the spoon too far back into the throat or the natural gag reflex will occur.
Avoid hot spicy foods, acidic foods, onions, garlic, orange juice, coffee, smoking, and tomatoes in large quantities. These products tend to lead to foul breath when a lack of proper oral hygiene is used. Certain meats also lead to the bad breath as well as fruits and vegetables high in acid content.
The foods travel into the stomach and increase the production of acids that end up causing the bad breath. Add foods high in fiber to remove the contents of the stomach naturally and reduces the acids in the stomach. Whole grains, fruits, and fibrous foods push the acids from the body to reduce the acid buildup and bad breath.
